Everywhere we turn, we are told we need more.
More success. More followers. More money. More influence. More beauty. More proof that we are worthy.
But at what point does more finally become enough?
Society is built on an unspoken rule: Keep striving. Keep reaching. Keep consuming. Because if you ever feel truly satisfied, the system collapses. The industries profiting off of your discontent—marketing, social media, self-help, even some faith spaces—thrive on keeping you just hungry enough to keep going, but never full enough to stop.
We are fed the illusion that something is always missing.
Genesis tells us that when God created the world, He called it good. Eden was whole. But the lie that first entered the garden was not just about fruit—it was about lack. The whisper that said, “You need more to be like God.” And so we have been reaching ever since.
But what if the real deception is not our lack, but our belief in it?
The False Promise of “More”
There’s a reason why no amount of success, validation, or material wealth ever seems to settle the restless soul. When we finally reach what we thought would satisfy us, a new desire arises. The finish line moves. The goalpost shifts. And we start all over again.
This is why people who seem to “have it all” still struggle with anxiety, insecurity, and loneliness. Because “more” was never the cure.
The Inner Battle: You Are Enough vs. You Need to Be More
It’s the pull in your chest when you rest, but feel guilty for not doing more. The whisper in your mind that tells you you’re enough, only to be drowned out by the pressure to prove it.
We live caught between two messages:
On one hand, we are told we are enough. That we should embrace who we are. On the other hand, we are constantly pushed to be more—better, smarter, more accomplished, more “on brand.”
So which is it? Are we enough, or do we need to evolve?
Maybe the answer is both. Maybe true peace is found not in rejecting growth but in rejecting striving. Not in abandoning ambition, but in refusing to be defined by it. Not in stopping the journey, but in knowing that even in the in-between, we are whole.
Breaking Free: What If You Already Have What You Need?
What if the secret to contentment is not chasing after more, but recognizing the abundance already present? What if the life you are longing for is not waiting for you at the next milestone, but is already here, in this very moment?
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Not another goal. Not another achievement. Not another level of success. Just rest. Just grace. Just enough.
Perhaps the most radical thing we can do in a world that profits off our discontent is to believe that we are already enough.
So, what would happen if you stopped striving today? What would happen if you believed that, right here and now, you lack nothing?
Because maybe, just maybe, the illusion of “enough” has been a lie all along.
Yours, Ileola.
